    Description

Item being sold is the original, October 30th, 1942, edition of the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper; this newspaper originally had two sections; the 16 page first section is being sold here, it carries the bulk of the lead story. The feature story was of the ongoing battle on the island of Guadalcanal, the principle island of the Solomon Islands.  The Marines and the Army would confront a determined foe there, in the Japanese soldier. The battle would rage from August 7th, 1942 to February, 9th, 1943. This newspaper concerns the time period between October 23rd through the 26th, 1942, where the battle for Henderson Airfield would rage. The 1rst Marine Division and the 164th Army Infantry Division, an activated National Guard Unit, from North Dakota, would go up against the 17th Army, of the Imperial Japanese Army. The ferocious fighting would last for 4 days; at its end the Japanese forces were broken and in retreat. This would be the turning point of the Guadalcanal campaign. This is a great item, ideal for the WWll enthusiast and is suitable for framing.
