    1943 Newspaper Article about Richard Ira Bong WWII Ace of Aces, Medal of Honor
    In the article it states that Richard is 23 at that time.  He was born in Superior, Wisconsin on Sept 24, 1920, so that paper would be from 1943.  There is no indication of which newspaper it is from.
    Richard Ira Bong was a United States Army Pilot who served in the South West Pacific Theater; the Battle of Buna-Gona; and the Philippines.
    He was one of the most decorated American fighter pilots, credited with shooting down 40 enemy aircraft, many in air combat.  He was called the "Ace of Aces" and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Silver Star, Medal of Honor, and the WWII Victory Medal.  He rose to the rank of Major.   This article was written when he was a captain after he downed his 26th and 27th planes.  He died in jet crash in California while testing jet fighters for Lockheed on Aug 6, 1945.
