    FROM THE ESTATE OF A WORLD WAR 2 VETERAN, A GUNNER IN THE COASTAL ARTILLERY, AND ALSO EDITOR OF THE BASE NEWSPAPER, THE  GOLDEN GATE GUARDIAN,  STATIONED AT FORT SCOTT, THE PRESIDIO IN SAN FRANCISCO DURING WORLD WAR II, IS THIS RARE ORIGINAL NEWSPAPER.
    JUNE, 1945 HE SHIPPED OUT TO MANILA, THE PHILIPPINES IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF WAR ON BOARD THE ATTACK TRANSPORT THE USS KARNES. WHILE EN ROUTE HE LAUNCHED AND EDITED (his name appears at the bottom of page 2- Sgt C Teitel) THE SHIP'S NEWSPAPER-THE DUFFLE BAG

    The U. S. S. KARNES was launched Dec, 1944, was involved in the Saipan and Okinawa invasions and later  OPERATION MAGIC CARPET several months after the defeat of Japan bringing veterans, including Sgt C Teitel back home. The KARNES was taken out of service in 1946 and sold for scrap in 1974
