A Pair of Antique Omani Fine Silver and Gold Elbow Rings or Bracelets, Collectib

On offer is a pair of antique fine silver and gold elbow rings or bracelets from Oman or Zanzibar.   Made from high karat silver, they are decorated with a high-karat gold overlay.  The engraving is beautiful and carefully detailed.
These are exquisite pieces are in great antique condition.  The inner diameter is about 80 mm, the outer diameter is 112mm.  The weight of the two pieces together is about 168g.
They were traditionally worn by women just above the elbow.  They make a soft rattling noise when shaken, caused by small silver pieces or tiny stones inside. It is believed that this rattling sound made the household aware of the whereabouts of the women.  T
his design is typical for the end of the 19th century - the mid-20th century.  Similar pieces can be seen in the Omani collection of the British Museum (e.g. online collection number 2009.6023.113-114), and documented in a number of publications on ethnic Omani Jewelry, e.g. in Oman Adorned by Shelton, Richmond (1997, Apex)
