ANTIQUE NEW ORLEANS MARDI GRAS ANTIQUE KING REX KREW LETTER OPENER 1910

Description

An original Rex Krewe Letter Opener Favor dating from 1910. The antique Mardi Gras souvenir features a large, gold tone paper knife cast from gilt brass decorated with the face of a crowned King with a long beard above a dotted “X” design with the wording "Rex 1910". The detail on the King Rex's / Neptune's head is fantastic. The blade is double edged. There is no marks or design on reverse.
This handsome collectible is one of the Krewe of Rex most famous Mardi Gras favors. It was given out as a gift to special attendants of the 1910 Mardi Gras Celebration in Louisiana, New Orleans.

CONDITION:
The brass letter opener knife is in very good antique condition with some signs of age including surface marks, scratches and tiny nicks to the edges of the blade. There is a rich aged patina to the metal.
