  • Condition: This rare reverse painted carved Essex Crystal is in PERFECT CONDITION. The setting has not been tested for quality of the gold, that is not where the value is, the value is in the perfection of the carving and painting of the perfect crystal itself. I am not a jeweler, please shop around to find similar items of similar value. Manchesters were a fairly common theme in old England, but these items extremely difficult to find in modern times! Victorian Crystals are extremely difficult to photograph, and I have done my very best to show the depth of the details!

    Description

    RARE Dog Art Essex Crystal Reverse Painted Hatpin, Set in Gold, Victorian Era, Early 1900s.
    Breed is Toy Manchester Black and Tan Terrier, or possibly Miniature Pinscher. Since the TMT was so common in the UK of that era, used as a ratter, that is most likely. Ears were pretty commonly cropped even on TMT's of that time, so that the ears did not get bitten by rats when doing their duty (truth...)
    Extremely finely detailed carved crystal cabochon, delicately hand painted from the reverse side, then set in casing and used as a Hat Pin, Scarf Pin, Brooch.
    Total length 3.5" Diameter is .75", Height of the perfect globular crystal is 3/8" from backing to top of crystal.
    This is magnificent!
    Please excuse my photos, the crystal is perfect, and catches every single reflection which impedes being able to see the beautiful workmanship ~ it had to be photographed in a room without light!
