Description

French Line: The famous NORMANDIE June 1935 issue of "l'Illustration". From the gold-trimmed embossed cover to the large Albert Brenet portrait in the center, this deluxe issue is worthy of its famous subject.
The text is in French with a short English introduction. But the photos do the speaking. Literally hundreds of them showing not only the grand public rooms and ultra-chic suites, but rarely seen areas such as bathrooms, single inner cabins, and even close-ups of silverware and other serving pieces.
Chapters cover the history of the French Line, the design and construction of the ship, technical advances such as fire control and improved galleys, artwork, and fittings such as wine coolers and lighting. In the back of several dozen pages of advertising, most of which feature deco renderings of the ship matched with specific products.
But undoubtedly the twenty-eight page section on interior design is the best part. Beautiful color renderings and photos (including a detail of the famed Dupas panels) show public rooms and cabins from all three classes.
You won't find a better overview of the ship than this special two-hundred page NORMANDIE "l'Illustration".
Very good condition with moderate wear to the binding.
