GORGEOUS Large Antique Vintage Central Asian SUZANI PANEL Hand Embroidered

Description

This antique hand embroidered Suzani panel is begging to be framed and displayed. The design is bold and graphic and the colors are amazing.
Suzanis have traditionally been made in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries.
They are often used as a wall hanging or to cover belongings are the traditional decoration in the home. This piece looks like it sat incomplete and then was finished a long time ago by someone else. There’s one section of border that’s embroidered grey thread and the rest is the blue banding. I think the original artisan wouldn’t have switched to machine banding after all that hand embroidery. But the blue banding isn’t new, either. A multi-generational work, maybe.
The ground fabric and the deteriorating red circle fibers show that the original panel is antique, probably early 20
th
century. Condition is consistent with the age—like some overall discoloration and some broken threads on the brown embroidery—which I’ve tried to capture in the pics. This is almost 3 feet square and would look fantastic framed, or as an oversized pillow.  I have some other amazing treasures imported from Central Asia listed separately.
