Description

This is a group of 4 Western Union Telegraphs related to the impending death of S.W. Small.
The first is dated June 24, 1869 11:30 a.m. from Elmira NY.  It is addressed to R.A. Small and states "S.W. Small cannot live the day out".  It is signed by S.O. Gleason.
The second is dated June 25, 1869 4:21 p.m., also from Elmira, addressed to Dr. A.L. Richardson and states "S.W. Small is just alive and unconscious".  Signed by W.A. Small
The third is also from Elmira, NY, dated June 26,1869 a.m., addressed to R.A. Small, "S.W. Small alive father here.  Send S.H. Small here." Signed S.O. Gleason
And the last from Elmira dated June 26, 1869 8:41 a.m. also addressed to R.A. Small, "F.W. Small dead meet us in Titusville tonight notify S.H. Small".  It is signed by S.C. Small.
We cannot explain the obvious time conflict in the last two time stamps.
All four telegraphs are in good condition.  There are no accompanying envelopes.
