Tzitzisexplained
And they shall make for themselves
tzitzis
(tassels)
on the edges of their clothing for their generations and they should place on the tassels of the edge a blue yarn. And this should be for you for tassels and you should see it and you should remember all the commandments of Yehoiva and you should do them. So that you should not spy after your hearts and after your eyes that you are being mezaneh after them. In order that you should remember and do all my commandments and you will be kedoshim for your God. Bamidbar / Numbers 15: 37-41
Gedilim
(fringes)
you should make for yourself on the four edges of your cover that you cover yourself. Devarim / Deuteronomy 22:12
Contrary to popular practices, these are
TWO separate commandments.
The first paragraph is the commandment of wearing tassels tied with blue yarn on the edges of the clothing worn by day. The second paragraph refers to the blanket / cover you sleep with at night. All four edges must have fringes. No blue yarn is used here and no tassels.
The way this commandment was practiced by
MEN and WOMEN
in the times of Moshe and Yehoshua before Bnei Yisrael turned away from the Torah:
Tzitzis
Clothing in those times were handmade on looms which left the cloth eith hanging warp yarns. The commandment for tzitzis did not allow them to hem the clothing. They had to make the warp yarns into tassels by wrapping them with blue yarn.
Gedilim
Blankets in those times were handmade on looms. The way blankets were made to fulfill this commandment was to cut each individual weft yarn instead of weaving a continuous yarn in and out. This created fringes on both right and left sides and then by leaving the warp threads hanging on both top and bottom ends of the blanket - they ended up with a blanket with fringes on all four sides.
Being that we do not make our clothing and blankets ourselves today, the only way to fulfill this commandment is to:
Tzitzis
-
to purchase fringes and blue yarn and then tie the fringes into tassels and sew the finished product to the hems of our clothing.
Gedilim -
to
purchase fringes and sew them onto the four edges of our blanket or duvet cover. The last two photos show the commandment of gedilim. Contact us through Ebay for instructions on this or if you would like to purchase linen with gedilim sewn on for you.
On ebay, we are selling
tzitzis
that have already been hand wrapped with techayles (blue yarn) for you to sew onto the hems of your clothing. Each piece is a total of
3 yards.
The first photo shows the tzitzis sewn on sample clothing. For instructions on how to accomplish this, please contact us through eBay. We are happy to help anyone who is looking to fulfill the commandments of the Torah in the correct way - the way it was done in the times of Moshe and Yehoshua before Bnei Yisrael turned off the path of the Torah.
For more information about the correct way the commandments of the Torah were practiced from when they were given by Moshe until Bnei Yisrael turned off the path that Moshe commanded them and started changing the Torah by adding and subtracting, please
