Description
There are but a few incidents in U.S. history that can be called monumental. The bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese is one of those - December 7, 1941. These newspapers report that incident the following day. These papers are not just the front covers - they are the complete issues of the day. Also very interesting to read the other news and sports of the time. These newspapers came from the estate of a retired U.S. Army Colonel. He was an avid collector and historian of U.S. military history.
This listing is for three original, complete newspapers. One price for the three. Free shipping to any of the 50 U.S. states.
All three newspapers are from December 8, 1941, the day after the bombing - all Chicago newspapers. These papers are now 83 years old.
1. THE CHICAGO SUN. Two sections. Total 28 pages. Article on Bette Davis. Coverage of the Chicago Bears game - Sid Luckman playing, and much more beyond that. Cost of this issue was TWO CENTS!
2. THE CHICAGO DAILY NEWS. Two sections. Total 28 pages. More Chicago Bears coverage - now on to play the Packers for the Western Division Championship. Wonderful full page ad from Marshall Field & Company for toy train sets. Cost of this issue THREE CENTS!
3. THE CHICAGO HERALD AMERICAN. Two sections. Total 18 pages. More of the same - war coverage & sports. Even the comics are interesting: The Lone Ranger, Buck Rogers, Barney Google, The Phantom and many more. Price THREE CENTS for the daily edition (Saturday cost a nickel and Sunday a dime.)
Very good condition overall. No interior markings or stains. No torn or bent pages. Just some slight tattering at some of the page edges, I think pretty remarkable condition for how old they are - newspapers don't usually survive this well. See photos please.
Returns accepted with full refund if you are not satisfied. (You would need to pay return shipping.) Sorry, no sales to Canada or anywhere other than 50 U.S. states. Book will be well packaged and shipped at my cost.
