    Description

Three issues of "TUFTS SITUATION" - an on-ship printed newspaper created by the enlisted men and officers aboard the SS Tufts Victory troop ship on its way home from England at the end of WWII. These particular ones belonged to Pvt Fred Jungles of the 14th Armored Division Liberators. These newspapers were printed both-sides on 8x11" sheets of paper and stapled together. Looks like they were printed daily or near daily. Because of the very cheap newsprint paper they were printed on, they are delicate and very few survived. Besides latest shipboard news, progress on their voyage, and news stories from home, there were also some top-notch cartoons done by M/Sgt S. McGaughey and T/4 W. H. Thomson. Looks like it gave the soldiers something to keep themselves occupied with on the long trip home

I have three newspapers in this lot from 17-Feb-1946, 18-Feb-1946, and 25-Feb-1946.
Condition is Acceptable to Good. The earliest single-sheet newspaper is torn along its folds and barely holding together. The other two multi-page papers have a couple spots of light damage to the edges but are stronger. All have heavy toning due to the cheap paper but are very readable.
These rare newspapers give a fascinating portal into the daily life aboard a WWII Victory Ship and would be valuable to the naval historian.
